At Central Coast Haematology, we are happy to offer telehealth consultations, preferably via video call. We use a secure and private video conferencing system for Telehealth consultations.

The platform we use, Coviu, is free for patients and works on your smartphone or computer browser as long as you have a camera available. No software installation is required. It utilises peer-to-peer and end-to-end encryption and is custom built in compliance with Australia’s Privacy Principles.

Telehealth not only reduces the risk of exposure to COVID-19 but provides a convenient alternative for patients when attending in-person is difficult.

At the time of your telehealth appointment, our staff will send you a link to either your email or mobile phone depending on your preference. Simply click the link and enter the virtual waiting room. When our doctor or nurse practitioner is ready to see you, the consultation will begin.

If you would like family members to be included in the video consultation, please advise our secretarial staff and we will arrange for them to join the video call. Central Coast Haematology will also conduct appointments via Zoom or Skype when requested.

Central Coast Haematology requires all patients to follow its COVID and respiratory disease safety practices. Working together, we aim to ensure the safety of all patients and staff as we follow four key practices in our Safety Plan:

  •   Only the patient and one other visitor/family member attend each consultation. If you would like to bring additional family members to your appointment, please call our staff to discuss if this is feasible.
  •   If you are experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, or have been recently exposed to COVID, please ring to arrange a telehealth (video call) appointment.
  •   All visitors to the practice to use the hand sanitizer that is provided upon entry.
  •   We ask all patients and visitors to wear a mask to your appointment.

We reduce the risk of infection transmission through protective screens, increased cleaning regimes, and whenever possible, limiting the number of people in our waiting rooms.

We thank you in advance for following our face-to-face practices of hand sanitising and mask wearing to protect our vulnerable patients, their family members and our staff to keep everyone safe from the additional risks of catching COVID-19 or other respiratory diseases.

The Central Coast Haematology practice established its Clot clinic to allow rapid specialist assessment of patients with venous thromboembolism. We aim to see patients within a week of receiving a referral and thereby reduce ED presentations and hospitalisations. We will review the cause of the clot, the appropriate duration of therapeutic anticoagulation, and arrange any further assessments that might be required such as thrombophilia screening.

All patients must have a valid referral addressed to either Dr Blennerhassett, Dr Forsyth, or Dr Shalini Balendran. Referrals from ED staff specialists or Wyong/Gosford Hospital RMOs are accepted as long as the doctor has included their valid provider number.

Referrals can be made by uploading the referral form or by faxing the referral to (02) 8212 5864 or email to admin@cchaematology.org.au. We will then contact the patient to arrange an appointment.
